V-Day 2008
no i'm not talking about valentine's, rather, vaginas!
Last night (and tonight) Park Theater held a sold-out show spotlighting the Vagina Monologues. A virgin to the performance, I was shocked, humored, and empowered.
Hope students, faculty and community members came together for a second year to direct, perform, and watch the Vagina Monologues started by Eve Ensler ten years ago. These monologues, some hillarious and outlandish, others unsettling were written based on Ensler's vagina interviews conducted all over the world in order to celebrate none other than the vagina. Today, the Vagina Monologues is a movement working to end violence against women and girls. Each year, there is a new monologue added to spotlight a current cause - this year's spotlight is on the Katrina Warriors.
All proceeds from the Holland show went to The Center for Women in Transition and Ottawa County's Children's Advocacy Center.
