new redemption song

This is one of my favorite's by over the rhine. not only is it simply a beautiful song, but it is a song that embodies what we all truly need. karin and linford performed this song when i saw them at NPU in November. It was the day after election day; it was a new day, a day of starting over, a new redemption day.

I finished reading The Kite Runner this morning on the way to work. It is a book that so vividly tells the story or loyalty, betrayal, and ultimately redemption. The storytelling is heartbreaking on one end, and on the other side, beautiful. The image of the face of a lamb, and the boy's squinty eyes, and the bells on the ankles of Sohrab -- that's redemption.

while i dove into this book, there are some passages that were painful to read. but it was in those parts of the story, the blood stained-snow, where redemption and the longing for redemption took on a very real and new face.

so i leave with two lines, my favorite lines -- one from the song, one from the book.

won't you help us please, help us find the words to pray, to bring redemption day

come, there is a way to make things good again
