To buy a new bike or not to buy a new one? Get the old one fix or scrap this thing all together? Undecided...
Today, after Elvia's birthday brunch in the West Loop, I rode my bike up to Holstein Park to meet Liz at the pool.
It's the greatest thing, you know, free community pools. I feel like I live in a small town (except for the fact that there are 51 free community pools in this small town). It was the perfect afternoon for the pool: temperatures in the 80's, a little breeze & full sun.
On the way home I nearly fell off my bike because the part of the pedal where your foot goes came unattached. I can't for the life of me think of an easy fix (yes I already tried zip ties).
This bike (that I bought for about $20 bucks from the neighbors after my real bike was stolen from the backyard) has proven to be a bit of trouble.
I'm open to creative solutions...input please!
In the meantime, it's back to the CTA.

When I was little, my dad replaced the pedals on my bike with pedal-sized blocks of wood. The intent of this creative action was to allow my short legs to reach the pedals and successfully commute between the garage and the end of my drive-way, and back again. It did the trick!
Now, I know you don't have trouble reaching your pedals, but perhaps you could replace your broken pedal with a hunk of 2 by 4?
you know, i have your old bike at my house. do you want it back?
I was actually picturing your bike with the big wood blocks on too...thats what jak needs to reach some pedals:) I could lend you mine since this pregnant butt hasn't been using it but i would cry if it got stolen. I will be on look out for a sweet bike for you.
whatever you do don't spend any money on it because we need that money for Costa Rica!
