I must've been wrong.
This weekend, while being pampered by make-up artists and hair-stylists (in preparation for a friend's wedding), one of my blog readers "outed" herself. I loved it. I love that family and friends read what I write, that people who barely know me might follow this thing. I love it that there are people who read this who live so far away, people I will never know.
Well, this reader, used the word idyllic to describe my posts.
It made me think for a moment. Really? Idyllic?
I think she meant it in a positive way. And, I suppose in this very real predicament I have found myself in (quitting my job in the midst of a horrible economy with nothing else lined up), I have written about it in a way that does put an idealistic spin on things. I guess that's the glass half full in me.
Well, how's this for an idyllic?
This morning I woke up (after a 12 hour night's sleep), went for a little run on this bright and sunny Sunday morning. After hopping in the shower, I walked over to Cipollina for an iced coffee & everything bagel. Meandered over to the park for the Sunday morning market. While I was disappointed that Seedling didn't have any peaches this week, I picked up some Jonagold apples and a little basil. At home I spent a little time in the back porch working on updating my resume and making plans for the rest of this beautiful day.
I'm now just back from a little adventure down the street to the Renegade Craft Fair (more about this here). Resting up before church with The Dalls and then meeting a friend for dinner.
I'd love to hear about what you did today...

Hey Lindsey, sounds like you had a great day! Dad and I went for a long bike ride this afternoon to the beach and got a $1 icecream cone at the General Store. It was a beautiful sunny day. Now we just got back from small groups and was glad to see that you had another posting on your blog. Love you.
Mom
well, the highlight of my day was certainly my sunny stroll around the renegade fair with you, lovely woman. thanks for your good company. :)
What a surprise! I certainly did mean "idyllic" in a positive sense, but maybe I should clarify that yours is different than the boundless idealism of college students everywhere. This is more level-headed, a real-world hopefulness that finds joy and beauty in simple, everyday things like coffee and friendship and a sunny day. And I always appreciate the reminder to be attentive to these gifts!
Oh Rachel, I was hoping you'd leave a comment! Now I can follow YOUR blog. Hope your trip back to Princeton goes smoothly!
