hometown glory

spent a couple days home this weekend. i prepared a late mothers day breakfast for my mom and sisters, shared a cider with a lovely friend, and celebrated the marriage of my beautiful cousin and her new husband.

it's always good to be home in holland. holland is still home, but it's nice to be back in the city as well...it is my new home, my temporary home. i don't know if this will resonate with anyone else, but this is something that's been on my mind all afternoon, so i just wanted to share:

as we enjoyed sunday lunch as a family, my dad shared news he had about a family that i knew. a family who i worked with, went to church with and celebrated births of children with are temporarily separated. this family is from mexico and now, as one member tries to gain legal citizenship, he is back in mexico. not only has he left behind his mother, sister, wife and children, he leaves behind the place he's known as home for more than half his life. i can't imagine what that would be like.

so as a weekend of celebrations wraps up, i think of home with a little heaviness...
