it's birthday season over here at the chicago condo. the roomies and i just happen to have birthdays all just a week apart.
i like birthdays. they give us a reason to celebrate. to go out. eat a little something sweet. sing crazy tunes. make banners and silly cards. they are a good excuse to make the ordinary just a little extra special.
last week we celebrated melinda ruth. she refused to tell me what kind of cake she likes so, instead, i made pioneer woman's baked fudge.
tonight us girlies had some burritos and margaritas at this locale in honor of liz. tomorrow i'm making her coconut cake...mmmm my mouth is watering.
i'm excited to go home this weekend and celebrate my birthday with my family.
then i'm coming back to the city and am in the process of planning a dinner party.
so, why is it that it seems like everything in the post has to do with food? maybe because i love it.
PS. check out Animal Vegetable Miracle. I just started reading it. Barbara Kingsolver is a fabulous writer. She will make you think about food in a whole new way. Now go eat asparagus, it's asparagus season! (Or cake...whatever you're in mood for)

i just made the pioneer woman's asparagus and the onion shoe string things tonight. and put them on a burger. it was probably the best meal i've ever had! mmm!! i'm trying to work my way through ragamuffin...it's hard. i'm thinking about just going through and reading what you underlined. haha. also, my mom just sent me a book entitled "10 stupid things women do to mess up their lives" and it's all about relationships. thanks mom. so if you wanna borrow it, you just let me know! haha.
HAPPY birthday, lindsey! you shoulda told me! i would have bought you a bday beer!
oooh now i have the pioneer woman's link! i'm ready for a good love story.
have a wonderful holland weekend!
happy birthday next week! and for the record i wish i had some cake. sadly, i got 1.5 kilos of chicken (somehow the order got messed up) and i have been enjoying that for the past week and will continue to do so for the coming week. cake and asparagus seem like a great sidetrack except it's as good over here. i guess i'll just have to stick to chicken and some fresh fruit and veg. hope you have a great b-day!
I'm a big fan of birthdays, too, even though I will soon be 50~NO WAY!
